PARAMOUNT - Paramount High will take a full head of steam into the beginning of San Gabriel Valley League play next week.
Senior running backs Deonte Dixon and Alex Turner helped make sure of that Friday night by combining for 305 rushing yards to lead the Pirates to an exciting 42-35 nonleague win over visiting Troy.
Paramount (4-1) posted its fourth consecutive win, turning around a 35-28 deficit with fourth-quarter touchdowns on an 82-yard pass from quarterback Lamont Odom to Tyrell Davis and a 9-yard run by Dixon with 1:31 to play that erased a 35-34 lead by Troy.
"We were resilient," coach Matt Howard said. "Every time we answered (Troy)."
Paramount, which will open SGVL play against Gahr next week, probably will continue to run the ball. "That's what we lean on," Howard said.
They leaned on it from the get-go, as Turner scored two first quarter TDs on runs of 29 and 5 yards.
Troy (3-2) came back in the second quarter to make it 14-6, but Paramount took a 21-6 lead on a TD pass from Odom to Devonte Dixon (Deonte's twin brother) from 13 yards out.
The Warriors responded with two touchdowns to make it 21-21 at the half.
Dallas Parent scored them both and in fact had all five Troy touchdowns. He gained 172 yards on 26 carries.
Parent opened the second half with a 99-yard kickoff return. But the
Pirates came right back to make it 28-28 as Deonte Dixon scored on a 67-yard run.Troy made it 35-28 on the first play of the final quarter.
Odom completed 11 of 16 passes for 188 yards.
"Lamont made some big plays, and that adds to our offensive game," Howard said
