CLAREMONT, Calif. (Blugolds.com) ? The UW-Eau Claire men's and women's outdoor track & field teams finished strong after three days of competition at the 2012 NCAA Division III Championships.
The Blugold men came in sixth place with 30 points, tying for their second-best finish at nationals in school history (also sixth in 1992, highest finish was fourth in 1990). The Blugold women tied for 10th with 18 points, their best finish since 2009 when they took fourth.
Wartburg won the women's national title with 129 points while UW-Oshkosh was second with 52. McMurry won the men's title with 66 points while four of the top six spots were held by Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) schools. UW-La Crosse was second, UW-Stout was third and UW-Oshkosh was fourth.
On the final day of competition, the Blugolds combined to win seven All-American honors after finishing eighth or better. Over the course of three days, the Blugolds secured a total of 10 All-American honors.
Thurgood Dennis (Fr.-Allouez, Wis./Green Bay Notre Dame) led the Blugolds today, finishing as runner-up in the 200-meter dash while taking third in the 100-meter dash. He finished with a time of 20.90 seconds in the 200-meter dash, the 10th fastest time ever at the NCAA Division III Championship, and came in with a time of 10.47 seconds in the 100-meter dash. Both broke school records, which Dennis already held.
The women's 4x100-meter relay team of Megan Mulligan (Fr.-Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger), Talisa Emberts (Sr.-Sussex, Wis./Sussex-Hamilton), Lindsey Laufenberg (Fr.-Waunakee, Wis.) and Jordanne Greenup (Sr.-Fridley, Minn.) broke its own school record with a time of 47.11 seconds on the way to taking fifth place.
The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Cody Prince (Fr.-Appleton, Wis./North), Marty Richardson (Sr.-Appleton, Wis./Kimberly), Jacob Dennis-Oehling (So.-Whitewater, Wis.) and Dennis took fifth with a time of 3:11.78.
In the women's triple jump, Julia Baranek (Sr.-Port Washington, Wis.) was sixth with a mark of 12.06 meters (39-7), narrowly missing her own school record of 12.07 meters (39-7.25).
The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Steph Rouse (Fr.-Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins), Emberts, Michelle Baranek (Sr.-Port Washington, Wis.) and Greenup finished in sixth place with a time of 3:48.19.
Greenup also finished as an All-American in the 200-meter dash as she took seventh with a time of 24.67 seconds.
In the men's shot put, Joe Lilek (Sr.-Tomahawk, Wis.) finished in 11th place with a distance of 16.63 meters (54-6.75).
Ashlyn Mauer (Jr.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) was 12th in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:58.91.
Aaron Easker (Jr.-Eland, Wis./Wittenberg-Birnamwood) was 12th in the men's 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:43.59.
In the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, Jeremy Kieser (Jr.-Verona, Wis.) finished in 14th place with a time of 9:34.80.
